Ng Mui, an abbess, lived at the Shaolin Monastery. When it was destroyed by Qing forces she managed to escape to the White Crane temple as one of the sole survivors. There she met a girl living nearby who was being forced to marry a local bandit. Ng Mui distilled her knowledge of kung fu into an extremely economical and effective system that could be learned quickly. She taught it to the girl who in turn defeated the bandit. Ng Mui named the system after her disciple, Yim Ving Tsun (“Eternal Spring”). The system was passed down through generations of dedicated
masters to Yip Man who was the first person to start teaching Ving Tsun
